For years, Adobe software has helped create vivid documents and presentations. Transforming photos and creating unimaginable scenery, this week we’re focusing on some of the most interesting facts we know about Adobe Systems:

  1. The company was named Adobe after the Adobe Creek in Los Altos, California. The creek ran behind the houses of both the company’s founders, Charles Geschke and John Warnock.
  2. The first products launched by Adobe (after PostScript) were digital fonts which were than rivalled by Apple’s TrueType.
  3. In 1986, Adobe Systems entered NASDAQ and has experienced a year-after-year growth of 22% reaching a staggering $5.85 billion in revenue in 2016.
  4. Adobe’s logo, a stylized “A” was designed by the graphic designer and wife of cofounder John Warnock, Marva Warnock.
  5. Adobe first entered the consumer software market with Adobe Illustrator, a vector-based drawing program for Macs in the mid-1980s, later introducing its flagship product, Adobe Photoshop in 1989.
  6. In 1993, Adobe launched PDF (Portable Document Format) and its Adobe Acrobat and Reader software. PDF is now an International Standard.
  7. As of 2013, around 10,000 people worked for Adobe Systems with a little less than half them based at the San Jose headquarters.
  8. In 2005, Adobe acquired top competitor Macromedia allowing to extend it’s range of products on newer software and platforms.
  9. In 2011 Adobe stopped working on Flash and switched to HTML 5.
  10. As of March 2018, 200 billion documents are opened annually in PDF format.
